Kia range per tank in the Tri-Cities: every 2026 and 2027 model

Last updated Oct 2, 2026

Specs note: Tank sizes come from kia.com spec pages. MPG is the EPA rating on fueleconomy.gov. “Est. miles per tank” is my math: tank gallons x EPA combined MPG. It’s an estimate that assumes you burn every drop, which nobody should do. Confirm the window sticker for the VIN on the lot.

Quick answer

If you want the most miles between fill-ups, look at the hybrids. On paper, a Sorento Hybrid FWD runs about 655 miles per tank, a Telluride Hybrid EX FWD about 637, and a Carnival Hybrid about 627. A gas Telluride AWD is closer to 380. Sit in the one that fits your week, then let the sticker settle it.

Hey, I’m Rick G. at Overturf KIA in Pasco. People ask me “how far will it go on a tank?” almost every week, usually right before a Seattle or Boise trip. So here’s every current Kia in one table, with the math shown and nothing made up.

Range per tank, every current Kia

Est. miles per tank = tank gal x EPA combined MPG (estimate). “Seattle and back” uses about 432 miles round trip from Pasco (see below).

Carnival Hybrid 2027 FWD 19.0 33 627 Yes, with cushion
Niro Hybrid 2027 FWD 11.1 50 555 Yes, with cushion

How I label the last column: “Yes, with cushion” means the estimate is 500 miles or more. “On paper only” means it clears 432 on the math, but you’d be running near empty. I’d stop for gas. “Plan a stop” means the estimate is under 432.

Sources: tank sizes from kia.com specs pages for that model year (K4, K5, Seltos, Sportage, Sportage Hybrid, Sorento, Sorento Hybrid, Sorento PHEV, Telluride, Telluride Hybrid, Carnival, Carnival Hybrid, Niro). EPA MPG and EPA total range from fueleconomy.gov. Checked October 2026.

Hybrid and PHEV notes

  • Hybrid (HEV): no plug. You fill it with gas like any car. The range comes from better MPG, not a bigger tank. The Telluride Hybrid’s tank (18.2 gal) is actually a little smaller than the gas Telluride’s (19.0 gal), and it still goes much farther.
  • Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV): EPA lists a total range that starts with a full battery and a full tank: 470 miles for Sportage PHEV and 440 miles for Sorento PHEV. EPA electric-only range is 33 miles (Sportage) and 30 miles (Sorento). Once the battery is used up, it drives like a hybrid.
  • Sportage PHEV tank: I left the tank size out because Kia’s own published sources don’t agree on it. I’d rather show the EPA total range than guess. Check the owner’s manual or the sticker.
  • Regular hybrids have no electric-only range to quote. If someone tells you a Sorento Hybrid has “EV range,” they mean the PHEV.
  • EVs aren’t measured in tanks. For comparison, EPA range (2026) is 237 to 319 miles for EV6, 230 to 305 for EV9, and 253 for Niro EV. None of them makes Seattle and back on one charge, so plan a charging stop. See my EV6 and EV9 guides.

Pasco to Seattle and back on one tank?

Approximate driving distances from Pasco (fastest route, one way):

  • Seattle: about 216 miles (about 432 round trip)
  • Portland: about 212 miles
  • Spokane: about 136 miles
  • Boise: about 286 miles

On the estimates, these clear the roughly 432-mile Seattle round trip with room to spare: Sorento Hybrid (602 to 655), Telluride Hybrid (564 to 637), Carnival Hybrid (627), Sportage Hybrid FWD (562), and Niro Hybrid (555). The Sportage Hybrid AWD (480), K5 FWD, and gas Sorento clear it on paper, but I’d still plan a fuel stop. Gas Telluride, Carnival V6, Seltos, K4, and gas Sportage should plan to stop. Boise one way is easy for all of them. Spokane and back (about 272) works for every gas or hybrid Kia on this page.

Real world: expect less than EPA

EPA numbers are a fair way to compare one vehicle to another. They don’t promise what your trip will get. On I-82 and I-90 at highway speed, climbing Snoqualmie Pass, running the heater on a cold Basin morning, or loaded with a roof box and a full third row, expect fewer miles than the table. Hybrids tend to give up more of their edge at sustained highway speed than in town. I’m not going to put a made-up percentage on it. Watch your own trip computer for a few tanks, and fill up when the low-fuel light comes on. Kia’s own guidance is to refuel as soon as possible after it lights up.

FAQs

How far can a Kia Telluride go on a full tank?
About 380 miles for a 2027 gas Telluride AWD and about 418 for FWD (19.0 gal x EPA combined). The 2027 Telluride Hybrid runs about 564 (AWD) to 637 (EX FWD) on its 18.2-gallon tank. All of these are estimates.

How big is the gas tank on a Kia K5?
The 2027 K5 has a 15.8-gallon tank on every trim kia.com lists. With EPA combined ratings of 27 to 30 mpg, my tank math comes out to about 427 to 474 miles. That’s an estimate that assumes you use every drop, so real trips come in shorter.

Sources: tank size from kia.com K5 specs, checked Oct 28, 2026. EPA combined mpg from fueleconomy.gov, as in the table above (checked October 2026). Miles per tank = tank x EPA combined.

How big is the gas tank on a Kia Telluride?
The 2027 gas Telluride has a 19.0-gallon tank. The 2027 Telluride Hybrid’s is a little smaller, at 18.2 gallons, but it still goes farther on a tank because of its better mileage. The range estimates are in the answer above.

Source: kia.com Telluride specs and kia.com Telluride Hybrid specs, checked Oct 28, 2026.

Which Kia goes the farthest on a tank?
On the estimates: Sorento Hybrid FWD (about 655 miles), then Telluride Hybrid EX FWD (about 637) and Carnival Hybrid (about 627).

Can I drive Pasco to Seattle and back without stopping for gas?
On paper, the Sorento, Telluride, Carnival, and Sportage FWD hybrids, plus the Niro Hybrid, clear the roughly 432-mile round trip with a cushion. With the pass, speed, and weather, I’d still keep an eye on the gauge.

Does PHEV range include the battery?
Yes. EPA total range for Sportage PHEV (470) and Sorento PHEV (440) assumes you start with a full charge and a full tank.

Why doesn’t my trip computer match this table?
The table is tank x EPA combined, which assumes every drop gets used and EPA test conditions. Highway speed, cold, hills, and load all pull real miles down.

Can I get MSRP and current incentives by email before I visit?
Yes. Tell me the Kia and trim you want, and I’ll email you Kia’s MSRP for it plus the incentives Kia is publishing right now. Incentives change, so I’ll put the date on the email. When you come in, I’ll write it up fresh on the lot with that day’s published incentives.

Offer: book a drive, bring your trade
