Specs note: Every number below comes from Kia Media, kia.com, or the EPA at fueleconomy.gov, checked Oct 2, 2026. If Kia hasn’t published a figure yet, I say so instead of guessing. Range and charge times change with weather, wheels, speed, and options, so confirm the window sticker for the VIN you drive.

Quick answer

The 2027 EV3 is Kia’s smallest and least expensive EV. It starts at $29,890 MSRP plus $1,495 destination (Light FWD), and the long-range FWD trims are EPA rated at 321 miles. It fits Tri-Cities drivers who can plug in at home overnight and want a right-sized SUV. If you need more space or power, look at the EV6. If you can’t plug in at home, look at the Niro Hybrid.

Tri-Cities reality check

  • Cold Basin mornings cost range. Every EV loses miles in the cold, and I won’t put a made-up percentage on it. On the EV3, the heat pump only comes on the AWD trims, and the Light skips the battery heater. If you drive a lot in January, that’s worth weighing when you pick a trim.
  • Hwy 240, I-182, and Hanford weeks. Add up your real round trip, then compare it to the EPA range with winter margin. A long-range FWD trim (321 mi EPA) gives the most cushion. Ask your employer about workplace charging before you count on it.
  • Home charging is the plan. Overnight Level 2 at home is how most Pasco, Kennewick, and Richland EV owners live with one. Kia’s 5 to 7 hour times assume an 11 kW, 240V / 48A charger. A lower-amp charger takes longer, so have an electrician look at your panel before you pick one.
  • Road trips to Spokane, Yakima, or Seattle are doable with planning. Public fast charging is thinner here than on the west side, so check your app and keep a buffer.

Who the EV3 fits, and who should look at EV6 or Niro

  • EV3 fits: a first EV, a commuter car with a home plug, someone who wants a smaller SUV that’s easy to park, and buyers who want Kia’s lowest EV starting price.
  • Look at the EV6 instead if you want more room and more power and the higher price works for you. kia.com lists the EV6 from $37,900 starting MSRP.
  • Look at the Niro instead if you can’t plug in at home (Niro Hybrid), or if you already like the Niro EV’s shape. kia.com lists the Niro EV from $39,700 starting MSRP.

Tax credit and Washington incentives

Federal: The federal new clean vehicle credit (IRS section 30D) is not available for vehicles acquired after September 30, 2025, per the IRS. So a 2027 EV3 bought today doesn’t get it.

Washington and local (checked Oct 2, 2026): Washington’s sales and use tax exemption for new EVs ended July 31, 2025, so an EV3 bought today pays regular sales tax (WA DOL). The state’s EV Instant Rebate program is closed (WA Commerce). Benton PUD lists a $250 rebate for a new all-electric vehicle bought or leased and registered at a Benton PUD service address (apply within 60 days), plus a $20 rebate on a qualifying Level 2 charger. City of Richland customers can get $300 for an Energy Star Level 2 smart charger from Richland Energy Services. I found no EV or charger rebate currently listed by Franklin PUD, and Pacific Power’s home charger rebate is for Oregon customers only. Programs change, so confirm with your utility before you buy. For Kia offers or lease programs, ask me and I’ll check what’s published today. I’m not a tax advisor.
