2027 Kia Telluride (Gas): A Tri-Cities Buyer’s Guide
Last updated Oct 28, 2026
Specs note: Specs vary by trim and options. I checked every figure against kia.com, fueleconomy.gov and Kia Media on Oct 28, 2026. Confirm the window sticker for the exact SUV.
Quick answer: The 2027 gas Telluride is all-new. A 2.5L turbo four (274 hp, 311 lb-ft) replaces the old V6. It seats 7 or 8 depending on trim and tows up to 5,000 lb when properly equipped. The X-Pro adds 9.1 inches of ground clearance and all-terrain tires.

Shopping for a 3-row SUV around here usually comes with a list. Will it seat everybody? Will it pull the boat to the Snake River? Is the new turbo as good as the old V6? You want straight answers before you give up a Saturday.
Hey, I’m Rick G. at Overturf KIA in Pasco. I help people from Yakima to Spokane to Pendleton pick the right Kia without the runaround. This guide puts the gas Telluride questions in one place, with a source on every number. When you’re ready, book a drive and I’ll set up the trim you want to try.
Quick answer: is the 2027 gas Telluride right for you?
- Need 8 seats? Two gas trims have a 2nd-row bench. The rest seat 7 with captain’s chairs. Every Telluride Hybrid seats 7.
- Towing a boat or a small camper? Kia lists up to 5,000 lb on every 2027 gas trim, properly equipped.
- Coming from an older Telluride? The V6 is gone. The new 2.5L turbo has a little less horsepower and more torque, and EPA mileage didn’t change.
- Mileage your top priority? Look at the Telluride Hybrid too. More on that below.

What changed from the 2025 V6 Telluride
There’s no 2026 Telluride. Kia went from the 2025 straight to the all-new, second-generation 2027, and the EPA lists no 2026 Telluride. Here’s what changed.
Engine: from a 3.8L V6 to a 2.5L turbo
The 2025 used a 3.8-liter V6 rated at 291 hp and 262 lb-ft. The 2027 uses a turbocharged 2.5-liter four rated at 274 hp and 311 lb-ft, still with an 8-speed automatic. That’s 17 less horsepower and 49 more lb-ft of torque on paper. Kia lists peak torque from 1,700 rpm, so the pull comes in low. EPA combined mileage didn’t move: 22 mpg with FWD and 20 with AWD for both years.
Towing and the X-Pro
Kia lists 5,000 lb on every 2027 gas trim, the X-Pro included. Kia rated the 2025 X-Pro at 5,500 lb, so if you’re trading one in, that’s a step down.
Size, cargo and fuel tank
Kia Media says the 2027 is 2.3 inches longer than before. It measures 199.2 inches long on a 116.9-inch wheelbase. Cargo is 22.3 cu ft behind the 3rd row, 48.7 behind the 2nd and 89.3 max. The tank grew a little, from 18.8 gallons to 19.0.

Confirm on the window sticker.
7 or 8 seats: which trims
The 8-seat bench trims
Kia’s spec sheet shows 8-passenger seating with a 2nd-row bench on the LX and EX. That’s the gas Telluride only. Every 2027 Telluride Hybrid seats 7.
Captain’s chairs (7 seats)
Every other gas trim gets 2nd-row captain’s chairs. The space between them gives you a path to the 3rd row, which helps when car seats are in. If you want 8 seats on a higher trim, that pairing isn’t on Kia’s list, so pick your seats first and the trim second.
Car seats and the 3rd row
Kia lists 4 total LATCH positions on the 2027 Telluride. kia.com doesn’t say which seats have them, so check the diagram in the owner’s manual. For grown-ups, Kia lists 32.1 inches of 3rd-row legroom. Have your tallest passenger try it before you decide. Bring your car seats to the drive and try them in.
Towing in the Tri-Cities
Around here, towing usually means a boat on the Columbia or the Snake, or a small camper headed up to the Blue Mountains. Kia lists up to 5,000 lb for every 2027 gas Telluride when it’s properly equipped. The Telluride Hybrid is rated 4,500 lb.
Kia lists a factory tow hitch as available on most trims and standard on the X-Pro. Before you hook up, read the owner’s manual for hitch, wiring and trailer brake requirements. Then check the window sticker, because that tells you what’s actually on that SUV.

The Telluride X-Pro: who it’s for
Kia offers the X-Pro on two trims, the X-Pro SX and X-Pro SX Prestige. It adds:
- 9.1 inches of ground clearance, vs 7.4 on other trims
- 18-inch all-terrain tires
- An electronic limited-slip differential
- A Ground View Monitor
- Standard AWD and a standard tow hitch
It makes sense if you spend real time on gravel, forest roads or a rutted ranch drive. The trade-off is mileage. The EPA rates the X-Pro 19 mpg combined, vs 20 for the other AWD trims.
Cargo and everyday fit
Behind the 3rd row, Kia lists 22.3 cu ft. That’s the number that matters if you keep all three rows up for school runs and sports. Fold the 3rd row and you get 48.7. Fold both rows and it’s 89.3.
The Telluride is 199.2 inches long and 78.3 inches wide, so measure your garage before you fall for one. My Seltos vs Sportage vs Sorento vs Telluride size guide lines it up against the smaller Kias.
Mileage and range per tank
EPA ratings for the 2027 gas Telluride:
| Drive | City / Hwy / Combined |
|---|---|
| FWD | 20 / 26 / 22 mpg |
| AWD | 18 / 24 / 20 mpg |
| X-Pro (AWD) | 17 / 22 / 19 mpg |

With the 19.0-gallon tank, my math on paper comes to about 361 to 418 miles. Highway speed on I-82, winter cold and towing will all pull that down, so plan on less. My range per tank guide puts every Kia side by side.
Winter in the Columbia Basin
Per kia.com, the LX and SX are FWD. The S and EX come in FWD or AWD. The X-Line, X-Pro and SX Prestige trims come with AWD and Terrain Mode (Snow, Mud and Sand).
AWD helps you get moving on a frosty Pasco morning, but tires decide how well you stop and turn. If you want real winter grip, plan on good winter tires, whichever drive type you pick.
Gas or Hybrid Telluride?
Pick gas if you need 8 seats or the full 5,000 lb tow rating. Pick the Hybrid if mileage matters most. The EPA rates the Telluride Hybrid at 31 mpg combined with AWD, vs 20 for the gas AWD, and lists one FWD Hybrid version at 35. It seats 7 and tows 4,500 lb. My Telluride Hybrid guide goes deeper.

FAQs
Does the 2027 Kia Telluride come with 8 seats?
Yes, on two gas trims. Kia lists 8 seats with a 2nd-row bench on two gas trims and 7 seats with 2nd-row captain’s chairs on the rest. Every 2027 Telluride Hybrid seats 7. Seating is set by trim, so check the seat count on the window sticker before you pick one.
How much can the 2027 Telluride tow?
Up to 5,000 lb when it’s properly equipped. Kia lists that rating on every 2027 gas trim. The 2027 Telluride Hybrid is rated lower, at 4,500 lb. Towing takes the right hitch, wiring and trailer brakes, so read the owner’s manual and check the window sticker before you hook up a boat or camper.
What engine does the 2027 Telluride have? Is the V6 gone?
Yes, the V6 is gone. The 2027 gas Telluride uses a turbocharged 2.5-liter four rated at 274 hp and 311 lb-ft, with an 8-speed automatic. The 2025 used a 3.8-liter V6 rated at 291 hp and 262 lb-ft. So it’s a little less horsepower on paper, more torque, and the same EPA combined mileage.
What is the Telluride X-Pro and do I need it?
The X-Pro is the trail-ready version. Kia gives it 9.1 inches of ground clearance vs 7.4 on other trims, plus 18-inch all-terrain tires, an electronic limited-slip differential, a Ground View Monitor and standard AWD. The EPA rates it 19 mpg combined, vs 20 for other AWD trims. It makes the most sense if you drive gravel often.
What mpg does the 2027 gas Telluride get?
The EPA rates the 2027 gas Telluride at 22 mpg combined with FWD, 20 with AWD and 19 for the X-Pro. With the 19.0-gallon tank, that works out to roughly 361 to 418 miles on paper. Highway speed, cold weather and towing pull real mileage down, so plan on a little less than that.
Is there a 2026 Kia Telluride?
No. Kia went from the 2025 Telluride straight to the all-new, second-generation 2027, which brought the turbo engine and the first Telluride Hybrid. The EPA lists no 2026 Telluride either. If you see a 2026 listing, check the model year on the window sticker, because it’s most likely a 2025 or a 2027.
Should I get the gas Telluride or the Telluride Hybrid?
Pick gas if you need 8 seats or the full 5,000 lb tow rating. Pick the Hybrid if mileage matters most. The EPA rates it up to 35 mpg combined vs 22 for the best gas version, but it seats 7 and tows 4,500 lb. Compare them on paper, then book a drive and feel the difference.
